When you buy a yoni egg of your own, you’ll probably be very excited to start using it as soon as possible. There might be a big problem though. How?
In this guide, we’ll go through everything you need to know to be able to insert and use your yoni egg like a pro!
Before you even start putting a yoni egg inside you, there are a few things you should do to prepare. Both your body and your crystal need to be prepared to get the most benefit out of wearing it.
To prepare your crystal, you will need to cleanse and charge it. We go over this in more detail in our article about yoni crystals, but here’s a brief summary.
Cleansing your egg involves clearing it of all the built up energy and emotion that find their way inside. This can be picked up from anywhere, and your egg will always pick up extra energy as you go about your life. In order to experience the spiritual benefits you desire, you need to cleanse the egg of all this energy, so the energy you want to be receiving from your egg is free to flow as normal.
Charging the yoni egg is the process of infusing it with energy from the earth, to power it and keep it doing its job. You can charge your egg in a number of different ways, but common examples include using sunlight, moonlight, or natural water sources.
Once your crystal is ready, you also need to prepare yourself to use it.
As yoni eggs are much more spiritual than other types of pelvic floor weight, there is often a lot more ritual attributed to their use. How this goes is entirely up to you, but common examples include using yoni eggs during a yoga or meditation session, lighting incense or scented candles, gently focusing on breathing, etc.
However you decide to go about this, the most important thing is to get yourself into a relaxed state of mind. This will make it much easier to insert the eggs.
Lubrication isn’t a necessity, but it doesn’t hurt to have some around. The vagina produces its own lubrication when aroused, so if using yoni eggs gets you in the mood, you’ll be fine.
Many people who use yoni eggs don’t have sexual pleasure at the forefront of their mind though, so their vagina might not be as slippery as it could be. This can make inserting the egg quite difficult, and if you force it in it can even be painful.
It’s up to you if you use it straight away, or see how you get on without first, but having lube nearby will mean it’s available if you need it. Simply apply some to both the egg and your vagina, and you should be able to get it in much easier.
How to Insert a Yoni Egg
Inserting yoni eggs isn’t the most complicated thing in the world, but it’s still worth going over.
You’ll probably have noticed that most yoni eggs have a thinner end and a fatter end, just like a real egg. Inserting the thinner end first is a great place to start, as it lets you gently stretch the vagina open as the egg moves further into the body.
If you have some difficulty getting the egg in you might find it easier if you start with a finger first. Gently arouse yourself and open up the vagina, just like you would if you were trying to get in the mood for sex.
Once you’ve loosened up a little, move back to the egg and try again.
An important thing to remember is that you don’t have to get the entire egg in the first try. If you’re particularly tight down there, or using a larger egg, sometimes it might be a bit too much.
If this happens, simply insert the egg as far as you are comfortable with, then take a break. When you return to it later, you’ll usually be able to insert it a little further, and with a little practise it will go all the way in.
Gradually doing it in this fashion is much gentler on the vagina, and lets things open up without large amounts of stretching which can be quite painful.
Keeping Your Yoni Egg In
Keeping your egg inside your body is the main point of using one. What you need to do to achieve this can vary massively on your body, your egg, and what you’re doing.
In the most ideal situation, you should be able to insert your egg and hold it in place for as long as you want without a considerable amount of effort, and without your muscles feeling sore and tired afterwards.
However most women’s pelvic floor isn’t always in the ideal condition, due to various things throughout life like childbirth.
If your pelvic floor is weaker, you’re likely to have more difficulty keeping your egg in, as well as more soreness after using them. Once the muscles have strengthened, these problems will likely not affect you anymore.
Should you find yourself struggling with this, the best advice we can give is to try a different egg. You might not expect it, but the larger the egg, the easier it’s going to be to keep in. While it might be harder to insert them, using a larger egg will definitely help you keep it in.
This should be carefully balanced against the weight of the egg though. As yoni eggs are made of crystals, they can get quite heavy as they get larger. You might have to experiment to find a size that you can comfortably hold, which isn’t too heavy for you.
Using Yoni Eggs for Exercise
As we’ve mentioned, one of the main medical uses of devices like yoni eggs is to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles.
These muscles play a vital role in controlling your bodily functions, protecting your organs, and generally are involved with a lot of your movement. As they get weaker, you can experience issues with incontinence, lowered sex drive, difficulty reaching orgasm, and even difficulty staying mobile.
By using yoni eggs, you can gradually strengthen these muscles, returning them to their former condition. This will often reduce or even completely eliminate any negative effects that you’ve been experiencing.
However sometimes wearing them alone isn’t enough. If your pelvic floor is in particularly bad condition, or if you're simply looking to strengthen it more than just being functional, then you might also want to perform kegel exercises.
These exercises also help to improve the condition of your pelvic floor. If you’re looking to take your exercises to the next level though, you can combine both yoni eggs and pelvic floor exercise to strengthen your muscles even more!
You can also perform many other exercises while wearing your yoni eggs, and you’ll need to keep your pelvic floor muscles engaged even more than normal to both hold the egg in place, and perform your exercises. This can lead to a great improvement in your overall core strength and balance.
Some exercises people like to do with yoni eggs in include:
- Adding additional weight to a yoni egg by hanging it on the string.
- Tucking exercises.
While these are just a few examples, there are countless different exercises people have designed to be done while wearing a yoni egg, each targeting and benefitting different areas of your body. Alongside the physical benefits, you can also direct the eggs energy to specific parts of your body by using these kinds of exercises.
Yoni Eggs and Meditation
Many people like to integrate their yoni eggs into meditation sessions. There’s nothing particularly out of the ordinary with these, and you can meditate just the same way you normally would.
The key benefit though, is that by wearing the egg you are exposing yourself to the various energies it sends out. This can help guide your meditation sessions, and leave you feeling much more empowered and centred when you finish and continue on with your day!
Unlike meditation and exercise, yoni breathing places a much greater importance on your sexual pleasure. Sometimes referred to vaginal breathing, the practise is intended to synchronise your breathing with the contractions you feel within your body.
There are various ways to do this, and it can be very unique to each woman. The majority of yoni breathing practises though emphasise slow, deep breaths, that gradually put you more and more in tune with you body.
Yoni breathing can also assist with your emotional journey while wearing an egg, as each outward breath helps you to push out negative energies through your vagina, and inward breaths let you absorb more and more of the positive energies your egg provides.
Can You Have Sex While Wearing a Yoni Egg?
Almost any time there is something being used on the vagina or penis, there will always be the inevitable question: “Can I have sex while wearing that?”
You might not think it possible, as the egg is sitting inside the vagina, but you can actually have sex while wearing one.
Wearing one while having sex can provide a very different experience. Naturally, the vagina will feel much tighter as there is more inside it. This can make the pleasure much more intense. The egg is also able to stimulate different areas of both the vagina and the penis, which can make things much more enjoyable than normal.
You can also wear a yoni egg while having anal sex. Having it in the vagina will stimulate the vaginal wall, and youll be able to feel it rubbing against a penis or sex toy that is inside your butt.
How Long Can You Wear Yoni Eggs?
There are a lot of different statements about how long you should wear yoni eggs at a time. Some people claim to have kept them in for hours and hours with no ill effects. Some even claim to have slept in them!
While these people may have not suffered any negative consequences, we still recommend that you err on the side of caution. We advise that you should only wear yoni eggs for around 1-2 hours at a time. Then take a break.
This gives the muscles involved time to rest and recuperate, rather than straining them for extremely extended periods of time.
I Can’t Feel My Yoni Egg! What Should I Do?
Another fairly common thing people experience when they first start using yoni eggs is that they can’t actually feel it while it’s inside their body. While this may be strange, it usually isn’t detrimental. The muscles will still be working to hold in place.
Of course sometimes this simply emphasises the fact that you’re pelvic floor has become stronger, and it no longer takes as much effort to hold it in as it used to!
When this is the case, it either means your exercises have been successful, and now you are simply maintaining the strength of your pelvic floor. When you actively contract these muscles, you should still be able to feel your egg. If you want to take things further though, you might want to try heavier yoni eggs.
Yoni Massage and Yoni Eggs
Yoni massage is another technique which can be used to enhance the benefits you might feel from using your yoni eggs. By combining specific breathing exercises with specific touches and rhythms, it is said to help relieve tension in the vagina, enhance the effect of your yoni eggs, and some even believe it can help with fertility.
How to Remove Yoni Eggs
While taking a yoni egg out might seem simple, sometimes it can actually be a bit of a challenge.
If things go to plan, all you should need to do is put a finger in your vagina, and gently guide it to the exit. Then it’s a simple matter of pulling it out and you’re done!
When the egg is loose inside your body though, it may move into areas where you find it a little harder to reach, so you can’t get it out. The most important thing to remember in this situation is not to panic!
The vagina is a closed environment, and nothing can travel in or out in any way except through the vagina. The cervix is at the other end of the vagina, and nothing is able to travel through it except during childbirth. This means that while your yoni eggs might feel like they are deep inside your body, they can’t be any further than the cervix.
If you panic and begin to stress that your yoni egg is stuck and you’ll never be able to get it out, you can often make things more difficult for yourself. While panicked or stressed, many of the muscles in your body will tense up and become tighter. If this happens to your vaginal muscles it will be even more difficult to remove your egg.
If your egg has gone deeper than you were expecting, there’s still a few things you can do to get it out. As strange as it sounds, often you can simply insert a couple of fingers and gently “fish it out”. Once you’ve managed to find it, your fingers can be surprisingly skilled at maneuvering it back to the entrance.
If that doesn’t work, you can try “bearing down” to push the egg back towards the entrance of the vagina. This is exactly the same as if you’re trying to “push” out a bowel movement, and is done by the pelvic floor pushing downwards. This opens everything up, and helps things pass out of your body.
The easiest way to do this is by sitting down, although you can also try raising one leg on a chair or the bathtub and pushing that way.
If you still can’t seem to get the egg out, the best thing to do is to leave it for a while and try again later. If you do something else for a while, the egg will usually naturally move back towards the vaginal opening, and be much easier to get out when you come back to it.
Of course all of these problems can be avoided if your egg is drilled. You can thread string through the holes in the egg, which makes retrieving it after use a much easier prospect.
Cleaning Yoni Eggs
Keeping your yoni eggs clean is an incredibly important part of owning them. When you use them, various bacteria from inside your body can build up on their surface. Similarly, between uses, bacteria from around your house can also build up on the eggs.
Leaving this bacteria to multiply and then continuing to use your egg is a disaster waiting to happen, and can lead to some nasty infections. Similarly if someone else touches or uses your egg, bacteria and even STDs from their body can be left on the surface, which can be transferred into your body.
This is why we should clean all yoni eggs both before and after each use.
For most eggs, this is a simple matter of giving them a wash in warm soapy water. You may also want to use a sex toy cleaner to ensure that all bacteria has been removed.
Unlike many other sex toys, it’s not ideal to boil a yoni egg. Over time this will weaken the surface of the crystal, and eventually may lead to damage to your egg.
If your egg is drilled, you also need to take extra care to clean inside the holes, as these are prime breeding grounds for bacteria. Any string you used with your egg should be replaced after each use, as the material will be much more difficult to cleanse so it’s safer to use a fresh string each time.
Storing Yoni Eggs
Yoni eggs should be stored in a place where lots of dust and bacteria won’t be able to get to them. Boxes and plastic bags work great.
Some eggs even come with small pouch to keep them in between uses! Others come with display boxes that make perfect homes for them.
The main concern with storage is making sure the egg doesn’t get damaged. Small cracks or rough areas on the surface of the egg can damage the inside of your body so they should be avoided. Similarly, storing your egg in a place out in the open is an easy way to get it very dirty between uses, which isn’t ideal.
