Prostate Stimulation 101

For men, anal is often left unexplored. There are many different reasons men might avoid any kind of prostate play, but there’s one reason every man should at least give it a try!

This reason is the prostate gland, and some men don’t even know that they have it! Even if they have heard of it, many men’s only experience with the prostate gland is during examinations done by their doctor.

But this little hidden gem has many sexual uses too, and stimulating it can lead to a whole new world of pleasure men didn’t even know about!

What is the Prostate Gland?

The prostate gland is a small gland found in a man’s pelvic region, between the inner end of the penis and the bladder. For most men, a healthy prostate gland will be around three centimeters long.

Normally the main function of the prostate is to produce prostatic fluid. This gets mixed with your sperm during ejaculation.

Prostatic fluid plays an important role in reproduction, as it mixes with semen to make it slightly alkaline. As the vagina is slightly acidic, this alkaline fluid surrounds the sperm, and helps to protect it as it moves through the female reproductive system.

Another important function of the prostate gland is to act as a valve which helps to control which fluids can exit the body through the urethra. Usually urine will move through the prostate when your bladder is full, but when you ejaculate, the prostate contracts. This squeezes the opening, and prevents any urine exiting the body.

How to Find the Prostate Gland

Even though the prostate gland is in the same location in all men, actually finding it can be quite difficult. There is no way to directly touch the gland, so to reach it you have to do it indirectly.

The most common way to find your prostate gland is to insert a finger into the anus. If you feel around two to three inches inside your anus, and press towards your belly button, you should be able to feel it. Many people describe it as feeling a little bit like a small walnut, and will feel different to the surrounding area. Some men prefer to use a prostate massasger. Prostate massagers have a specific curved design to touch your prostate gland.

You should know when you find your prostate, and will probably feel a slight tingle as you touch it. Others find that touching it makes them feel like they need to pee.

Another, less common way to reach the prostate is externally. By rubbing the perineum (the area between your scrotum and anus), you can gently rub the gland. You may need to press quite hard, as there is a fairly large amount of skin between you and the prostate. Despite this, the perineum is the easiest way to reach the gland without penetrating your body.

A final method people use to reach the prostate is by penile insertion. This method is much less common, and isn’t for the faint of heart. By inserting a sounding rod (essentially a long metal stick) into the urethra, and gently guiding it down the inside of the penis, you can eventually reach the prostate. While this method does allow you to directly touch the prostate, much fewer men are willing to penetrate their penis.

Why Should You Stimulate Your Prostate?

If you’ve found your prostate then great! But you might still be wondering what the point of all this is. Why bother finding your prostate at all?

We encourage all men to find their prostate gland, so they can find out what it’s like to stimulate it!

Stimulating the prostate can produce many different results for men, and many of these are immensely beneficial during masturbation or sex!

The most commonly stated reason you should try prostate massage is simply to feel the incredible pleasure it can offer you. Once you learn how to do it effectively, you can even bring yourself to orgasm without touching your penis at all.

Not all men will be able to experience prostate only orgasms, but that doesn’t mean you should give up! Prostate stimulation can also make normal orgasms much more intense, especially if you’re able to rub the gland as you reach orgasm.

You might find that it gives you stronger erections, much more powerful ejaculation, or even improve your sex drive!

Even if you aren’t interested in the sexual benefits, stimulating your prostate gland can also carry a number of health benefits too. Many studies have found that regularly “milking” your prostate gland to release some of the fluid inside can make it much healthier, and can even reduce the risk of getting prostate cancer.

These health benefits are so good for you, that even doctors may rub the prostate gland to help treat various conditions!

What Does a Prostate Massage Feel Like?

If we haven’t convinced you to try prostate massage yet, then you’re probably wondering what it feels like.

Unfortunately, getting used to the feeling of having a finger in your anus can be tough for men to get used to. Getting over these feelings of “strangeness” or it “being weird” can take a fair amount of time, so it’s important to try and be as relaxed as possible. You want to focus on the pleasurable feelings, rather than those you are less comfortable with.

Another very early thing you’ll notice is that often when you touch the gland, it feels a lot like you need to pee. This is completely normal, and something that most men will experience at some point during prostate massage.

The key here is to remember that you aren’t actually going to pee yourself. As the prostate contains the tubes which link your urethra to the penis, it just feels very similar. Any fluid that does come out though is prostatic fluid, rather than urine.

You might find it hard to concentrate on pleasurable feelings while the need to urinate is constantly on your mind. Try to relax as much as possible and as the pressure builds up in your penis, try to let go. Once you’re able to let the fluids out, you’ll be able to effectively “milk” your prostate.

As you become more and more comfortable with your massages, you’ll start to notice the more pleasurable sensations being more prevalent. As these build and build, you may eventually reach orgasm through prostate stimulation.

These orgasms aren’t like traditional male orgasms, which are over quite quickly and suddenly. Prostate orgasms last much longer, and are similar in some ways to a female orgasm. Many men say that it feels like waves of pleasure washing over your body, starting in your pelvis and spreading as the feelings become more and more intense.

The other great thing about prostate orgasms is, as you don’t physically ejaculate, your body doesn’t enter the refractory period. Refractory periods prevent men from having multiple orgasms, or becoming sexually aroused again for a little while after orgasm. Which means, men are capable of having multiple orgasms too!

Thanks to these similarities to the way women’s orgasms work, many people refer to the prostate gland as the “p-spot” or “male g-spot”!

Try Prostate Massage Today!

As you can see, there’s a lot more to prostate massage than you might have first thought. We strongly encourage all men to try it out, and not just once. It takes a while to get used to it, but sticking it out is well worth the rewards! You can even take one step further and try experimenting with a prostate massager toy. Or you might even want to consider using other types of toys, like dildos. Start small if you are new and choose a dildo for beginners that has a narrow girth. Those looking for stronger sensations should go for thick dildos —their big heads are great for prostate stimulation, and if you want to play around temperature, try glass dildos.

But if you're not yet ready to stick something up your butt, an external prostate massage is a great option.
